the making of Ground Work

This album has undergone a lot of growth since it’s conception last fall and I have found that at a certain point I had to surrender and let the songs tell me what they wanted vs. pushing the known formula or ideal version. I have been blessed to be working with amazingly talented musicians and recording engineer who I think have all been angels in disguise! (except for that one guy…;p jk )

We have literally had an acoustic violin explode, an amp short circuit and smoke, and one song that had to be completely taken apart and redone from scratch about 3 times -lobotomy style. But we have also had charmed sessions where the songs fell into place perfectly on the first take much to all our amazement.

In the midst of all this I realized that I kept hearing myself say “I’m just laying down the groundwork with this album” as I explained what I’m doing and where I’m at musically. This is like setting the stage for the music to come. The next album is already beating at my ribcage [...]
